First snow of the season

First snow of the season

Hey Mt. Charleston community – today’s weather is giving us all the cozy vibes (and a little warning) as winter quietly knocks on the door.

Here’s what’s happening up above:

  • Right now it’s rainy and chilly, around 39°F (4 °C).

  • Through the afternoon and early evening, expect continued rain (36°F / ~7 °C) and clouds, with occasional showers.

  • Later tonight, skies stay mostly cloudy, with temps dipping into the upper 30s to low 40s F (4–5 °C).

  • The precipitation line (i.e. where snow starts) is expected to stay high up on the mountain slopes — which means snow accumulation at road level is unlikely.

  • However, with unstable weather and blower winds, conditions could change quickly, especially as the night gets colder.

So bottom line: roads to Lee Canyon, Charleston Peak, and related higher trails should remain mostly snow-free for now — but that doesn’t mean driving up is totally safe.

Travel Advisory: Be Cautious & Use Your Best Judgment

Given the storm moving through:

  • Drive only if you must. Conditions could deteriorate, visibility may drop, and roads (especially side roads or higher elevation turns) might get slick.

  • Adjust your timing. If you’re heading up later this week, afternoons might warm things slightly, but better to plan for safe morning windows.

  • Stay informed. Monitor local road cams, weather updates, and alerts before venturing upward.

As a local Las Vegas artist and photographer, I’ve captured the beauty of Mt. Charleston and the Spring Mountains in my artwork, which is featured on the products available on this website.

My journey with this incredible landscape began in 2018, when I moved to Las Vegas and started working for a nonprofit organization at the Mt. Charleston Visitor Center. It was here that I fell in love with the mountain, its serene wilderness, and the vibrant wildlife that calls it home.

Today, I combine my passion for nature and creativity by designing unique products that celebrate the beauty of Mt. Charleston, Lee Canyon, and the Spring Mountains. Whether you’re a hiker, skier, camper, or simply someone who loves the outdoors, my artwork is inspired by the breathtaking landscapes that make this area so special.
